Pretty Cool LeMans Reunion this Sunday in Charlotte
As some of you know, I've been organizing a European car show for the last 10 years in Charlotte. It started out small, but kept growing. (Thanks to my wife for all her help). Over that time Charlotte has grown a lot too and despite its historic association with NASCAR it's become a really good European car town. (Interestingly, more and more NASCAR guys and finding their way into Porsche's. Can't say much more about that
![]() But along with Charlotte's growth has come more and more "car people" with some really cool cars. For example, John Hotchkis Jr. brought his '73 911 RSR to the Charlotte area back in early 2020 by way of California. John's Dad (John Sr.) raced the car for several years along with the Aase brothers. Bob Coates brought his Ferrari 365 GTB4 BB NART to Charlotte just 6 months ago from New York. Both are very cool historic race cars in their own rights. But what is super cool is that these cars both raced in the IMSA class at the 24 Hours of LeMans in 1977. In fact, they lined up one behind the other on the starting grid at spots 36 (Ferrari) and 38 (RSR). Bob's Ferrari finished 5th in IMSA class and John's Dad finished 6th in the RSR.. However, these cars have not been together in 45 years since those 24 hours in France back in '77. But, we'll get to see them both together again this Sunday morning. ![]() ![]()

Nice work! Having visited Sonderwerks a time or two in past 2 years, there’s definitely an interesting and growing, perhaps, NASCAR / air cooled connection. Wish I was there this Saturday. Hopefully your posting here will attract some guys and gals for this event.

We actually had to postpone our event until THIS Sunday due to weather conditions. So if you around, you still have a chance to see these two reunite. 8:00 AM at he SouthPark Mall in Charlotte.
And on the other topic I alluded too in my original post, see below. Jeff Gordon is driving a 911 Cup car in a race at Indy next month. Hendrick Porsche swore me to secrecy when I started hearing rumblings out of Atlanta about some NASCAR icons and then connecting the dots about 6 weeks back. I don't want overshare, but Jeff is more than just a "hired gun" for this race. Pretty sure he's got Stuttgart fever. ![]() ![]()
