Exterior Carb Cleaning Help?
Over the winter I had my 2.0 engine in storage. The Webber carbs suffered from some humidity despite having them covered. Any suggestions on what to use to clean them up again. Looking to clean the exteriors only. I tried some carb cleaning and a small wire brush and this did not work.
Thanks

Cleaning carb bodies................
Try cleaning the carb bodies with some of the spray on paint stripper and a toothbrush. Be certain to wear gloves as the paint stripper is pretty hard on skin. I have found that this stuff does a really good job of cutting thru the dried fuel gunk that winds up on the outside of the carbs. Just be sure to rinse them off right away with fresh water. A final cleaning with a good parts cleaner concentrate and another washing off with water should leave the cast aluminum body parts looking like new.
Good luck!

Freddie
Is what you're trying to clean, the carb bodies or the rust on the studs and screws, and what did you cover them with while stored?

phosphoric acid solution, or a commercial aluminum brightener. it's oxidation you're trying to remove, I think, not fuel residue/staining. I always coat in heavy motor oil before storing.

paint stripper makes sense to me for 1st hit.
also... i used some por-15 clear paint when carbs were new. Still looks great, but not as when first shot.

It's the oxidation that I'm trying to remove. Before storage I had them rebuit. If you look closly at the picture, you may notice the heavy oxidation/crusty looking white substance.
