Another CIS problem (maybe)
I must have read 4 dozen CIS threads, but so far what I've tried hasn't worked. A week and a half ago I parked the thing and an hour later it would not start. To fix this, I pushed up the sensor plate to make sure fuel was squirting, which it was. I also pulled out the #1 injector. I changed the original 30 year old plug wires, and plugs. The problem was traced to the fuel pump relay, thanks to the advice I got here. Now that I've received and installed the new relay, the car starts, but pops through the air box at low rpms. The idle is very rough. I can feel the accelerator pedal moving to keep it alive, but it pops rather violently, and eventually dies. I can drive the car, and at higher rpms it works ok, but not as well as it did. Before the demise of the relay, the car was fine. By the way it's a stock 77 2.7 liter.

Bell911,
Sounds like you have a big air leak - did you knock something loose? Haven't got everything back together correctly? Did you have a back-fire while you were trying to get the fuel pump working? |
Figured it out. I had to adjust the mixture a bit. I may have knocked it off when I was fooling with the pressure plate. Hard to say. All hoses were where they should be. Typical of me though. i was ready to order a WUR without trying the simplest things first. This method has cost me much money in the past, and apparantly taught me nothing. No matter, all is well again.
