Post 964 gearbox......

Hello all. Is the 964 gearbox considered a
G-50? Are they reliable and strong?

Thanks,
Chris

It depends on whether it's a C4 or a C2. The C2 has a transaxle similar to the G50, but I think the ID G50/03. The ID for the C4's tranny is G64/00. Some of the numbers after the / may change with the years.

The Getrags in the 964 series appear to be VERY reliable from what I can tell. I've been posting and getting e-mails about 911s for over two years. I have *yet* to hear of a G50 on a C2 failing, and the problems on the C4 often end up being related to the overly complicated hydraulics associated with the AWD system...not the transaxle itself.

The 964s have had some problems with flywheels (particularly 90-92), but that's a different story (not the tranny).

Hope this helped,

Bill Wagner
