Air conditioning belt

I have done a search on this but couldn't find anything specific on the topic. I know if you take your AC out of your car you could lose up to 75LBS. But my question is, Is the belt that drives the AC robbing me of power? If I just took the belt off would I get more power? Thanks for your Input.

No. If the compresser isn't compressing, there's really no drag. Just like a pully.

When the AC isn't running, there is pretty much zero drag caused by the compressor. If you take the belt off and spin the compressor, you'll see.

If you ever plan on using the AC again, you should keep the belt on, and also run the AC for a few minutes every so often.
