A/C Rotary Upgrade _did the search found nothing...

Can someone that has done this tell me what is involved in the upgrade from the compressor type to the rotary type.

What parts do I need to replace?

If available, what are the part numbers?

anything else you may think applies...

Thanks
Randy

Go to www.griffiths.com. They've all kinds of good info there. I'm going to be doing this myself in the not too distant future.

Randy, this site has a good article on upgrading to the Seiko rotary as well as the Sanden. Look in the tech article section found on Pelicans home page.

If interested, i've got a spare NEW Sanden compressor and mount kit (originally for a 914 replacement of the York compressor) for sale. This was for a kit car project, but the compressor didn't fit in the Bradley GT-II body.If interested, send me e-mail at efeinsmith@aol.com.

Randy, I did this upgrade last year on my 82 SC. Got everything from Griffiths, easy fellow to do business with. I bought the rotary style compressor, all new hoses, receiver/drier, and an expansion valve. Everything fit the way it was suppose to fit. I stayed with R-12. Changing to another refrigerant will not work as well as the refrigerant that the system was designed around.
The job was more of a pain in the a$$ than difficult. Took me about 16 hrs but that included pulling the evap coil and cleaning it, putting all the straps back on, pulling a vacuum, and recharging the system.
The only problem I did not expect was mounting the compressor as it hit a aluminum boss on the intake manifold. Took me a while to grind the boss down with a air grinder equipped with a rasp type bit. Had little aluminum bits everywhere.
The good news is the system works as well as any SC can work due to the lack of air flow in the cabin. Yes, I have the bulkhead vent.
Do it again in a heart beat.
No more vibration when the compressor runs, the car idles better than it did with the York, and doesn't seem to draw as much power from the motor.

Thanks all,

So is the sanden the best choice, it seems as though the seiko is truly a rotary as the sanden is not.

Just checking...

Just had the AC evacuated/charged. Two hundered bucks and 2 1/2# of R-12 later the system works ok. Blows 41F at 100F. On a 84 Carrera was Nippondenso the stock compressor?
