Which Clutch ?
Well, I have almost all the stuff I need to swap a '86 3.2L for the 2.7L in my '73 except for the clutch. A few of the parts catalogs list different clutches for the '73 and the '86 and I'm wondering which one I'll need. Also, are the ring gears the same for the '86 and '73?

Brian,
Get a Sachs Power kit and it will work fine! No, your '73 ring & pinion are 7:31 (4.429:1) vs 8:31 (3.87:1) for all post-'75 915s, but it will work great ... just ask Jack! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Thanks Warren, I was considering the Sachs Power kit as it seemed to be a good price for a performance clutch. What I meant to ask was is there a difference between the '73 clutch kit and the '86 clutch kit? The ring gear I was talking about was the one on the flywheel, not the ring and pinion.

Brian,
There is no difference in the mounting configuration of any of the 915 pressure plates ... that is why one kit can work on any of the 915s from '72 thru '86. There were upgrades in the holding pressure and some were cast iron and others aluminum, and variations in the disk, too, over the years, but the Sachs Power kit is compatible with any year 915 and 'flat' flywheel! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
