I was reading a reply to a post when I realized why I enjoy this site. Some comment about "nuts and bolts and none of that wine and chees *****". What it points out is that this is the real world. None of that phoney "I'm special because I drive a 911" BS. People with Porsches whether they can afford them or not. People who appreciate that owning a P-car is not a "posession thing" but an mechanical art appreciation thing. A true piece of Americana. I come here and I learn something, I come here and I laugh, therefore I come here. I was recently turned on to this site by another Pelican Head.(sorry if that sounds too 70's to alot of you folks, but I am a child of the sixties, so please bear with me). He did a good thing. I see real people here who do what work they can on their P-Cars with a little help from their friends. I have not sensed the presence of any of the yuppie types that never get their finger nails dirty. I avoid those people. Everyone who posts or replies here is part of something special. I really appreciate it. I sold my first 911 (1978 black Targa) before I really wanted to. $$ reasons. I bought my second (1987 red Cabriolet) because I could finally afford one again, kind of. (Married with children) To whoever is responsible for this site - Thanks.

I like "Pelican Head". I wonder if Pelican could produce a subtle sticker that we wouldn't be too proud to put on our P cars.

You gotta wear those blue gloves that Griot's Garage sells for $15 a box - HA!
Actually, I DO wear them, and if you want to buy a case of 10 boxes (@50 gloves ea) I'll give you the manufacturers phone number. Knocks the price down to $7.40 a box. They are absolutely fantastic for working on cars. |

Rarly, hate to burst your bubble, but Harbor Freight www.harborfreight.com sells the nitrile (blue) glove for $11.99 for a box of 100. Even less when they have a sale.

Great post, and so true! I offer up my experiences and draw on the expertise of those who know better than me.
By the way, BIG UP on the Rastasite! Osbourne (aka King Tubby) was a true revolutionary at the mixer. I look at today's rippers and all I can hear is Tubby's Drum and Bass! Jw |

What fingernails ? I chewed them off years ago before I updated my tensioners!
Do your hands sweat with those blue gloves? (oops I mean perspire) Thats what I don't like about the latex gloves, they don't breathe. ------------------ Bob 1982 911SC Targa PCA - Founders Region |

Too right. Who wants clean hands? Nice dirty nails are just a souvenier (sp?) of all that hard work on the p-car

What I find amazing is that I spend all week tearing F-15E's apart and putting them back together. Them when the weekend rolls around I do the same to my 79SC!!! My fingernails haven't been clean in years.

Just dirty fingernails? I usually end up with cuts or nicks by the time I'm done with something...
I really appreciate that people are willing to post their mistakes so everyone can learn from them. Sure beats having to try them all out yourself. ------------------ Regina |

This is a good site, a nice mix of people with all sorts of backgrounds and experience. As I've said before, its amazing that for just about *any* subject, there is an expert here!
I've been around a while, and I think the board is really at this time the best its ever been. Fun stuff. |

My mom constantly bugs me about dirty fingernails. Do you still have the grip like you do with fingers when wearing those blue gloves?
Agreed, Regina! Cuts, nicks, bruises, busted knuckles, burns(don't ask ) are all a part of the fun and enjoyment!------------------ Jeff 1976 911S |
