My 74 came with a front spoiler but no tail. I thought I read here that that is a bad combination for handling reasons. Should I take spoiler off? Get tail? Shut up and leave it alone?
Also does anyone know what option group "K22" is? Thanks ------------------ Dan S. 1974 911 Targa |

My Targa had the same setup--front spoiler only. Most guys here will tell you it doesn't make a difference until you hit 120 mph--but I could tell the difference on I10 in AZ (the road from Phoenix to Tucson--mostly flat desert) at about 70mph. So could my wife (riding shotgun). At or above about 70 the rear end got a little squirrely (yes, the car was aligned, tire pressures equal, wheels balanced, etc.). I put the tail on and it made a very noticeable difference. YMMV, of course.
Besides, Targas with tails look cool. Check out http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_speed_prep/914_speed_prep.htm (text search for "whale") for some exposition about spoilers. blue ------------------ blue '81 SC Targa |

Blue,
That link has some good info. I guess I'll start to look for a duck tail as I don't think the larger whale tail looks good on the 74 narrow body. I'm sure my wife will be very happy to hear about this new requirement ![]() ------------------ Dan S. 1974 911 Targa |

Then it's not my imagination that I feel the difference in driving 65 or so in my Carrera with the tail and front spoiler? It seriously seems a bit more solid on the road...but I dunno.
If you say you could feel it at 70, then surely I could have felt both of those at 65. ------------------ Kurt B '84 Carrera Cab. carrera_cabriolet@yahoo.com |
