I did check arond for a new cap and rotors, but i found only parts for bosch distributors. Someone know if a bosch cap will fit on my marelli distributor? what bosch cap model? I hope that's the best way for a fast repair because i would go to marry with my 911 on next may 14 . Please help me with suggestions :) Thanks Mauruce deltastar@tin.it SmileWavySmileWavy |

____________ No |
You can replace entire distributor with a Bosch part. Then you may obtain spares.
Can somebody here provide the accurate part number? |
most people replace the marelli with a bosch
|
OK, here you go, you need:
"Bosch dist Porsche part # 911.602.022.00 Centrifugal advance 0 to 30 degrees, replaces Marelli dist." If you have used Porsche parts dealer there in Italy, that would be your best bet. Probably rather expensive, just what you need with a wedding coming up so soon. |
re
Thanks for answers:)
dear silverc4s, probably you mean: 901 602 022 00 that would be the distributor bosch body. May i change my marelli with: rotor, cap, contact points ...and others with bosch parts? Ciao Maurice SmileWavySmileWavy |
Maurice,
I looked it up for you in an old Tweeks catalog I have in my archive here (vintage 1995) . The part number in there for this distributor body is a 911. 602.022.00. They also list 901.602.021.02 and a 901.602.201.50 as early 911 distributors. But they list yours as a 911 part#. You will need a Bosch cap and rotor as well. You present plug wires will still work. :D:D |
Maurice,
i just looked in the PET, and the 901.602.022.00 is the listed part number for your present Marelli distributor. |
Congratulations!!
|
yes, in the future i must search a bosch distributor.
That's strange thing...marelli parts are not reproduced.... Thanks for congratulation, you find a picture of my car yet. Work in progress.....missing trims and small things Thanks maurizio SmileWavy http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208717305.jpg SmileWavySmileWavy |
Maurizio,
Nice car, thanks for sharing it here. It is always interesting to see these cars in other countries than the US. And congratulations and best wishes on your upcoming marriage!;) |
Hi Bill,
a pleasure for me show my work on car. I have another problem also. When car is cold seems that runs on 5 cilinder. After more minutes the engine(warm) back to run 6 cilinders. i did check about compression, that's right, valvle clerance- right-, about spark cables-right-, spark plugs-right, -contact breaker-right-, coil -right..... now i don't know where beat my head..:):confused: maybe the distributor cap? It seems in good condition( but maybe have a problem inside??) Maybe an US friend have suggestions for me ? ciao ciao Maurizio |
Yes all of your problems seem to sound like they are ignition/spark related. I would try and find 6 new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, coil, cap and rotor.
The best option is to install an electromotive device. You can buy them on this website. I have one on my 2.0 and its the best thing. |
...spark plugs are new and wires also. i should check another distributor because mine is a -BAD- Marelli and new parts aren't on this earth.SmileWavy
|
..may you link me the electromotive system for 2.0 litre please?
I'm not able to find a right one on catalog. ThanksSmileWavy |
i need the bosch number distributor in order to search an used right one for my 68 T.
Now I don't know want is the bosch right. SmileWavy Thanks Maurizio |
Maurizio-
If you still have a stock '68T kettering ignition you may be seeing this cold misfire due to the combination of a weak spark and a cold mixture of air and fuel that isn't vaporized. You may be able to correct the misfire by replacing the conventional kettering ignition system with a Capacitive Discharge Ignition system from a '69E or S (or other early car CDI system if you wanted to keep the car "correct"). Another option is an aftermarket CDI system such as MSD or Crane. http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911E/POR_911E_ELignt_pg6.htm#item31 Good Luck, Jim |
if you're feeling industrious and lucky, there is cap manufactured by Mopar that will fit the Marelli and Bosch distributors.
that's what was on my 73 from the prior owner 29 years ago. Bill K |
Thank you Jim, so i should search for a 911E ignition system. It's easy to fit ? SmileWavy
Thank you too Bill. May i have more info about Mopar cap please? SmileWavy Thanks Maurizio |
sorry M, that's all I have.
maybe someone with a NAPA (parts store) connection can reverse look-up a cross-reference for you. mine was probably from one of the millions of slant sixes Chrysler (corp) made during the 70's. Bill K |
Maurizio-
I don't know how easy it would be to install a Bosch CDI system. I went with the MSD as it was less expensive. Installation was simple, with plenty of information available from this board through the search function. The only challenge was getting the tach to work properly again. Good luck, Jim |
meanwhile i go to change spark and wires.
Which are the best spark plugs for early 911? And about spark wires? Beru or others? thanks Maurizio SmileWavySmileWavy |
I think, respectfully, that going in and changing the ignition can wait on this car. I'd find out first if in fact the car is running on 5 cylinders, which one it is, and focus hard on the path of current for that bad cylinder. Changing the whole system doesn't necessarily follow at this point, and with a new bride (congratulations!), an ongoing 911 restoration (nice looking 911!), and I'm sure a lot of details for the upcoming wedding, I'd say this is a not quite ideal time to start 911 mods, troubleshooting the mods, and doing whatever fabrication work comes with installing non-factory parts.
As I said, just my opinion, and I hope that I'm stating this in a respectful way. Maurizio, congratulations and I do hope your new life is full of happiness. I also agree on changing to the Bosch distributor. I changed my 1970 914-6 distributor to a Bosch because of the same reasons. I have a new Marelli, but it stays in the cardboard box for now because replacement parts are like museum pieces now. Also, the Bosch has a greater range of advance/ retard adjustment. It's also less than half the cost of a Marelli. |
thanks for yout contribution.
Yesterday i spent lot of time for a deep check ...... Already check about air leaks...i foud something wrong, i said That's right now! Go to have a short check on road and....5 cilinder again :( so I'm going to understand that i have 2 or 3 bad things that goes wrong. I go to putt off the silicon spark wires from a daly drive Fiat Brava :) and go to put on my 911....:) and finally SIX CILINDER forever...... so the problem was short air leak+misfire ignition. Both problems did drive my out way. I also founded a Magneti Marelli Superpotente ingition coil( probably the original coin on early 911T) that will be on car in few days. Now, I would give a Big thanks to all Pelicans friends that did read and help me till here. I will go to post other pictures in few days. Sorry for my not good US words. Thanks again my friends SmileWavySmileWavySmileWavy |
Maurizio, congratulations on the Porsche and the up coming marriage .
What part of Italy do you live in ? I will not be back to Italy till July but may be able to bring small Porsche parts with me for you . If I can help save $$$ on shipping ( I don't have a euro key on keyboard ) I'd be happy to help . Ciao ciao , SxS PS Do not worry about your English , it's much better then my Italian SmileWavy . |

i had the exact same 5 cylinder cold, 6 cylinder hot issue last year. when changing the plugs i noticed one was a lot blacker than the rest, (it was running rich on that carburetter and sooting up). a turn of the air screw to lean out the problem cylinder solved it in my case. hope that helps also. |
Thanks Paul. Today i connected the vacum-meter in order to have a right weber alignment..beautifull.......
After i used my digital RPM meter in order to understand what happen when i go to turn the air screws. Now the engine is very regular when cold&hot. Will post a short video on youtube in few days. Will post the web address also here. SXS man, i live in Salerno next amalfi coast, That's a beautifull location that you and Pelicanfriends must see. Amalfi, Ravello and Positano..:) |
Maurizio, I have a similar car here in Australia that also had Marelli. You can find ANY of the later Bosch distributors (except the SC series) and have it machined down to fit our earlier engine cases. You must have the distributor re-graphed to suit the engine though. This is much cheaper than buying a new Bosch. Next, buy a Crane XR700 ignition system - you will then have a perfect engine electrical set up for our cars :)

Maurizio , you my friend are in luck !

After the wedding we will be at the Villa Cimbrone for dining and dancing . I'd love to bring you parts and share a Grappa or Vino Rosa with you . No Lemonchello for me ! Also , you can keep Amalfi . Too many tour buses with German and English tourists . Pretty town but spoiled . I'd like to see your town , I googled it and rather like how it looks . I'll be staying at the same place , view from apartment .......http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...6-24-07-28.jpg and looking at Ravello . This is a little off topic but I had the pleasure of meeting an Italian supper star this last January when I was in Dubai , UAE . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/100_0097.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/100_0067.jpg Wife and I even got picked up in Dubai for the road trip to Abu Dabui in in Guido Cappellini's Hummer Limo . Wifes cousin has been a sponsor of his for years in F1 boat racing . ( Omni Decor.com ) .I've followed his racing history for years but this was the first time I met him . Very nice man . He finished second (2nd) that day .http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/100_0081.jpg I got your email and feel free to contact me before I leave and I'll be happy to help any way I can .
