Advice on good quality speakers to fit a stock 84' coupe (door and rear)
Thanks to a recent post, I've decided on a Nakamichi CD400 or CD500 in dash unit. Now I need some good quality speakers for the door and rear deck of my stock 84' coupe to match up with this great quality head unit.
I'd like to not have to modify the deck or door panels and I'd like the speakers to be a mid-price point. Any advice would be great

the rears are a tough call, 4x6" and only about 1.5" depth to work with.
Some Infinity Kappa series or Polks fit. Crutchfields website has good reference to what fits For the front doors, I think they're 5 1/4, 6.5" will require either cutting or rear mounting the speaker behind the door panel. I ran polks up front and rear, powerd off a 4x50watt Sony deck, then twin 8" JL audio subs in the rear seat foot well powered by a 240 watt amp. Nice ballanced system. These guys sell a pre-fabbed board and give great advice on their 911 stereo systems. Dig around on their site for a while. http://www.caraudioinnovations.com/sub.htm good luck

Infinitis
Go with 4 Infiniti speakers hooked up to the head unit of the deck for power. 2 rear speakers, and the two larger ones in the bottom of the door. Leave the top two tweeters in the doors unhooked, you don't need them when you have 4 good speakers.
You don't need an amp after that for an install, because the interior of the car is small...unless you want bass. Then you're talking subs, an amp etc.

I put a set of MB Quarts in the back. They were drop-in replacements, and I reused the stock grill cover. (I don't remember if they were 5x7 or 4x6, but I'm pretty sure they were 4x6.)
I also put some MB Quarts in the doors, but they required a bit of modification to fit properly. I don't recall exactly what I did, but it wasn't difficult, and I didn't have to cut the door or door panel and also reused the stock grill cover. I think the fronts were 5-1/4". Both sets sound great! If you want information on what fits without moifications, go to www.crutchfield.com. Each speaker listed for the car will say whether it will install without modification to the car and also whether the stock grills can be reused. HTH.

I used Blaupunkts in one of my Porsches - they fit and look good, but the sound sucks.
I used MB Quarts in another - they sound great! |
