My understanding is that the curb weight of the Carrera is approximately 2750 lbs, whereas the 964 C2 is approximately 3050 lbs. Could someone please dissect this 300 lb differential between the two? I'm assuming a lot of this resulted from ABS, power steering, larger engine, airbags, luxury items, etc. Reason: I'm trying to determine what I could potentially strip and what is too integral to the car to strip cost effectively (i.e., how closely could one approach the Carrera curb weight by stripping only the nonessential incremental parts). Thanks.

I have the Carrera at 2662 curb weight so you will have to add another 100 lbs of items to get rid of.

A lot of people don't know this, but if you open the smuggler's sub-trunk in the front trunk, you'll find a 300lb fat guy with a burger. His name's Bo.

You'll probably never get there by trying to eliminate a lot of the items you've just mentioned. Most 3.2 Carrera's had AC too. They didn't have as big an engine, ABS, power steering, or air bags. The "luxury" items on a 964 are probably no better weight wise than those on earlier 911s (although the climate control certainly works better). I would guess that of those items, the engine accounts for most of the weight, but the other differences probably come from suspension differences and the fact that the body/frame are structurally completely different.
Look at the weights of a completely stripped RS America without any AC, no power steering, no damping material, no rear seats, no sunroof...if I recall correctly such models only saved about 150 lbs. |

Thanks, Bill. Good point regarding the RS. I'm stuck on this light weight kick. I removed all sound dampening, the entire interior seating except a Kirkey racing shell, lighter exhaust, etc. Handling, acceleration, and general responsiveness have improved significantly. The P car is so much more fun to drive. Even with 31mm rear and I think 24mm front torsion bars and 255's in the rear, the handling characteristics were noticeably improved. Much more tossable. I guess I'll be limited to pre-964's then.
And Kurt, I can't seem to find the elusive Bo. |

Kurt, Bo is only found in US models. For ROW cars his name is Hans, and he is eating schnitzel.
