Odd problem with Tach light bulb...

Well this must have been the weekend for "odd problems with the Porsche". Since I'm happy with my fan pulley now, here's the next issue.

I noticed that the illumination on the laft side of my Tach was out. I can't pull the Tach with the steering wheel in place but I could pull the Oil Temp/Druck guage and get to the Tach lamp socket. But when I pulled the lamp socket there was no lamp, it wasn't burned out, it has fallen out of the socket and into the Tach housing! So, do I just replace it and forget about it or can the lost lamp cause any damage (jamb, short, etc.) rolling around in there. Any body got pictures of the inside of the Tach housing? What's in there?

Thanks
Andrew

I don't think your tach is mounted any different than mind -- the trick to get it out without hanging on the dash and the steering column is to remove the rubber gasket first. It is forgiving enough that you can work it out around the tach. I lost a bulb in the fuel gauge and was able upon removal to tilt the bulb back out the hole from whence it came. It was a bit of a bear but is doable.

It's not a big deal to take off the steering wheel but its good know the rubber gasket trick. I guess I'll just remove the guage and fish the lamp out. Yet another project for the weekend...I'd be lost without one:)

Thanks, Andrew
