What does the RSR style conversion look like for a 1974 Muffler?

Are the internal baffles different than the Pre-1974 muffler?

74 and earlier--same, same...

Smog laws hit USA cars in 75 where they want to thermal reactor exhaust system.

I think it was later for some of the euro cars.

this thread is useless without sound! :)

So, I might give this a shot tomorrow. I'll keep y'all posted how it goes.

just call ben at m&k. he sells a great muffler.if you talk to him,he will have what you want. and in the long run,it is cheaper to just pay for one in stead of farting around with making one. i know a little about this,i have put 4 systems together in the last year for my car. on friday i bit the bullet and bought the 2 in 2 out from him.

rennch 07-07-2008 09:45 PM

well, if I totally blow the install tomorrow, I will give it a shot.

Agreed. I have Ben's 911R muffler on my car and it flows really well on the track. But it is pretty loud for the street, though my car is 99% track anyway.

BTW- doesn't Ben have one of his 911R mufflers on ebay right now for sale???

Heh heh heh... I've spent many a fun filled day behind that car. I'll miss seeing it around (he just sold it). It, and his other car (the gray ST that was in Excellence awhile back) both have a great sound, but I like 'em loud as hell. Anyway, he made the outlet pipes from a pair of front strut dust covers. Gotta love it...

Wow...that rocks. I happen to have a set of spare, Koni yellow dust covers in the garage. Awesome.

These are 3" outlets, M&K. I'd go for the quietest version Ben sells. It is loud, but not a daily driver. No resonation.

So guys...I already have a stock early muffler, so I'm going to give it a shot with that one first. Gawd knows I've already put a lot of money into this rig. I have to try it, Lars (Speedo) style first, and take the DiY approach. :) I promise video with sound if I get it right...

tom1394racing 07-08-2008 07:33 AM

How about this one.

Kemo 07-08-2008 07:57 AM

after looking at the other baffling designs...would this one work? it seems a bit simpler as far as flow.

in the other photos, there was a small gap just before exit. whats the downside to going straight out?

I think this one would be loud, but not as loud as the MK...i guess Ill never know till I hack one up :) which sounds like fun

so where is that sawsall?

Kemo 07-08-2008 07:58 AM

I guess i should post the photo ;)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1215532720.jpg

The interesting thing is our new gen5 is quieter then ever. You would be suprised how well they baffle. I can update yours if you like

rennch 07-08-2008 10:35 AM

Maybe Ben wants to sponsor me for an exhaust, due to all that magazine coverage I'm sure to get when the car is done. ;)

mb911 07-08-2008 01:33 PM

I wish I could been doing too much of that lately but hopefully You can read some good articles soon in 911 world and excellence

rennch 07-08-2008 01:35 PM

Well, you're reputation is excellent...I wish I had the budget to finish it off with one of your exhausts, but perhaps down the road a bit. Until then, I'll try the poorman's version.
