3.2 Carrera Temperature Switch Wire Disconnected

3.2's,

Last weekend working on my baby, I was feeling around the front of the engine and found a loose wire that was connected to a sinlge post sensor type component what I believe is the TEMPERATURE SWITCH according to PET.

I pulled the single wire off and it was about 4"s long light green with white stripe the other end seemed to be severed.

Does anyone know where it is supposed to be connected to?

Pics would be nice if available.

I know my Engine Compartment Heater Blower is supposed to switch on when engine temperature reached 128+/- F to help cool down the engine.

TIA

Thanks Again Dave!

That's it!

So it looks like it is supposed to be connected into that thick tube to something, will investigate and try to reconnect. I bet my baby will appreciate being able to cool down in the summer :D

hey Drago,

that's the oil pressure switch (green wire w white stripe). SLODAVE, that was amazing haha.

You can get to it by removing the air cleaner and air flow meter box. You have to turn your head sideways and then you can poke your head into the engine compartment far enough to see the switch next to the breather hose and the oil cooler thermostat. I changed mine about 2 weeks ago, so it's still fresh in my memory.

The tube is a sheath. If you have the room, slice it a little (there should be a hole where the green wire goes) and see if you can find the severed portion. If it is cleaner than mine, you could probably wrap some electrical tape around the brown 'tubing' after the fix.

Thanks again Fellas!

Hey Rusnak, Oil Pressure Switch, Really? I don't get it, I have pressure showing on my VDO guage, wouldn't it show zero at all times if that was severed?

In anycase, thanks I will reconnect. Hope I can get my big Budha head in there, LOL.

No, the pressure sender is located on the right hand side of the fan. It does have a green wire attached to the top of it though. :)

I have a alligator clip holding mine to the pressure sender.

Definitely this Red topped Switch with green/white wire.

I will hack into that insulator and see if I can find the severed part and re-attach. Thanks again Dave SmileWavy

BTW, do you know where the "Idiot" oil light switch is located?

slodave 04-22-2008 11:11 PM

You're welcome Jim. Surgical precision as you cut. ;) My guess, is that it goes to the front of the car. I'm not very lucky with the lottery though!

Once you reconnect the wire, your "Idiot" light will work again. ;)
