Oil Pressure Sender/Cam Feed Line

Replaced my pressure sender, which had failed, exhibiting the "always at 5 Bar" symptom, and the right hand side cam feed line on my 1986 Targa today. For those of you contemplating this repair, be warned that the air conditioner compressor bracket makes this job nightmarish to the point of nearly, but not quite, impossible. I'm not sure I would have been able to do it it if my wife's small hands were not available! I of course took the sender's mounting block off the engine before removing it from the block. I don't think there's any way it would have come off with a crow's foot wrench, at least not without damaging the engine case threads.

I would recommend that if you have A/C and big hands, that it would be worthwhile to take the muffler, engine tin, and bracket off to do this. I know it sounds like a lot of work to do this when these parts are more or less accessible, but it may be faster.

It's a heck of a trick to get the new sender, the mounting block, the bolt and the two (new!) sealing washers into the narrow space and thread it in without losing the washers and/or bolt - It can be done though! The line itself was relatively easy after that. for those who are interested, the pressure sender is 24mm, the bolt is 17mm, the compression nut on the cam line is 14mm, the compression nut on the line feeding the tensioner is 12mm, with a 14mm counterhold, and the banjo bolt is 17mm with the fitting holding it to the cam tower being 18mm, and a tight fit to get a wrench in there to counterhold it - make sure this fitting is tight before you put the banjo bolt back, as when you loosened the banjo bolt, you probably cracked the seal on it, too. Thanks to all the prior threads on this subject; they really helped.

1 oil leak down, who knows how many to go?
