Porsche Crest My New - 1988 911 Carrera

Hey all

new to the site but not new to the love for 911's. I bought my little precious one 2yrs ago.
The other woman as my wife calls her is a 911 3.2 88 model. must say love the curves so & that rear end is pretty cool.
anyway the only mods to her are:
- JVC cd player, Pioneer 6 inch splits & amp.
- window tint as i live in Perth Western Australia gets hot down here.
- balance is just how she came out of the factory.

i have some questions that i was hoping for some with help me out with:
1/ when idling at the lights or just as i start her up it starts to hunt then goes away.
2/ there is a a click click sound that it make, as if there was a something lose and going backwards & forwards. engine area

apart form that i have the usual what can i do to make it quicker without getting a divorce -
- exhaust
- chip (read plenty on the 'steve wong' chip
- handling

well below are some pics of her on a day that here we had our annual Porsche day & also when i took part in a 'Make a Wish' charity run for ill kids.

I like that color a lot, really a classy look. Looks nice with the darker trim rings around the headlights. Are the rims in the back 8" or 9"?

welcome aboard mate!

nice lookin carrera

- exhaust: speak to monty in melbourne. makes a great product http://www.montymufflers.com/index.html
combine that with a fabspeed pre-muffler (i may know someone who has both of these that he may want to sell)

you could go all out and get some nice headers but the above will suffice and is 1/2 the price. money is better spent on handling, stopping & weight reduction

- chip: sweve wong (mated to exhaust)

- handling: make sure all the rubber bushes are not perished and shocks are in working order. if not get yourself some elephant racing bushes and bilstein shocks. order off pelican and save a heap of $$$. aussie distributors are still charging what they were when the dollar was 0.70 US! Then get the car to a good suspension place for lowering, alignment & corner balance

- brakes: carrera brakes are pretty good (work well on my 76!). just make sure they are in order. you could go for a higher temp pad and fluid. boxster brake conversion is great but will cost a couple of $K

cheers,

jeremy

Welcome aboard Melo-911! I was going to ask if it was Diamond Blue Metallic like mine (Commemorative Edition)...all of those Metallics seem to change hues depending upon the light conditions so it's hard to tell. Beautiful car...now the fun begins !

Hi Melo, and welcom to the forum - I am new as well.

Beautiful car you have there, but I am biased as I have one very similar (snap). And the funny thing is I am also from Perth!!! We should catch up for a drive and to compare cars - PM sent.

Funny, I came along to the Drive for Dreams (before I owned my car) and can't remember seeing yours there - but hey there were over 200 Porsches.

Here is my baby:
New owner.....3.2 Carrera piccies

Mine is build date 1987 but classed as an MY88. It's a commemorative edn in Diamond Blue but has had the Fuch centres repainted black and polished by a PO. Your car looks very similar to Diamond Blue, what is your paint code? (mine is L697).

The only mod to my car that I am aware is a high flow muffler (which type I wouldn't have a clue).

I am currently in Denver Colorado this week on work (also picking up my first order from Pelican Parts while I am over here!).

new to the site so here are my replies ill learn quick its just i need to go watch the Champions League reply.

1/ the paint code is F3 699 - Granite Green & FELSEN GREEN which may be the same dont know. but i love the colour.

2/ yeah i was at the 'vip' section had a special guest to take on the run.

3/ they are 9's at the back, love them they are still in original condition have not had to get them polished

4/ thanks for the advice i will do my some investigating on the forums as i can see we all start with the same questions. would be nice for a thread that just reads 911 beginners top five mods.

Unusual to see the wheel on the right (left) side of the car. Do you have to convert that to RHD?
That one of my favorite colours on a 911. Classy, understated but beautiful!

check the adjustment of the idle switch.
you may have to add a bit because the engine mounts get old and when the engine moves around more than "wanted" the linkage pulls the idle switch up

oh, you will find out it is impossible to adjust in the car.. take out the throttle body and do it on the bench

btw nice car - I have an 89 and love it.
I forgot to mention the easy thing to check first... under the car check the bell crank trombone link gap and maybe adjust to the high end...this should help with the switch getting bounced when your foot is off the pedal.

Hey all again

thanks for the suggestions on the small issues i have. ill keep you posted or ask for more help on them soon.

no need to convert here in Western Australia. when i first bought it that was the plan as the car is in mint condition and the cars here are over priced and not really that bit run down, but the mechanics here said to drive it for couple of weeks and see. basically after two weeks driving it i completely forgot about it.

cheers
