replacing brake lines for the 1st time...
 

Hi guys:


I am going to replace my aging, original lines on the 912E with some new DOT braided ones I bought a while ago.

This seems easy enough, but can anyone give me a run down with "watch fors" and the right size tools I need?

Dave,

First step is to get a set of Craftsman Metric Flare-Nut Wrenches ... if you don't already have a set!

Second step is to douse the fittings with REAL PENETRATING OIL the night before you are going to attempt removal of those old hoses.

I did spray some spray lube on the fitting tonight. I didn't have a can of good penetrating oil (not one that I could find anyway). Anything wrong with good old Liquid Wrench?

I'll douse it all well and take a crack in few days' time. I don't want any hassles, but they are old, old, old.

Hey Warren,

The lines are coming off easily. I can't figure out how to get the old front lines out from the flange to which they attach? They are free of the caliper and the hard lines, I just don't know how to get them "out", so to speak.

Dave, trying to visualize the fittings from here at work. I believe the line actually has a fitting on either side of the flange. You need to get two wrenches, the penetrating fluid, etc. then just unscrew them. Check out the attached link. Dave,

There is a 'U' spring-clip on the other side, out of sight, and it needs to be knocked off with a large screwdriver (18" BFS variety) or drift.

It is #8 in the following diagram:
