Hello Folks,
I am planning to have my transmission rebuilt. MOTOR MEISTER in Souther California has this package for $795us: Transmission Rebuild Prices All Transmissions Include: 1-New First Gear Dog Tooth 1-New 1st Gear Sychro Ring 1-New 2nd Gear Sychro Ring 3-New 3rd, 4th and 5th Gear Sychro Rings 1-New Complete Gasket Kit 1-New Complete O-Ring Set Complete Set of Nylock Nuts & Washers Wurth 574 Loctite And complete labor of rebuilding customer's Porsche Transmission! Is this a good deal? Are these guys reliable? Many people have recommended them. What special "features" can i have on my transmission. They have this: "Type Short Gear Ring-N-Pinion If you want your Porsche to really pull hard out of the corners or pull hard from the “get go”, then you need to install a RS/RSR type final drive set up. Next time you drive your Porsche look at your tach, see how late your “power band” comes on? If you would like the power to come one “NOW” then you need to step up to this conversion. It “feels” like some one added 50 horse power to your car, all it is is that it brings your power band lower, for your power hits sooner. This is a must for all Autocross Racers." Should I get this one? Thanks' |

2nd teeth, 1-2 sleeve, and 3-4 sleeve, should be included in a good repair. they're usually all worn out, among other things. you'll see once it's apart on the bench. then the price goes up. the lower R+P is nice on the street, but the motor winds high on the freeway. poor mileage, if you care.

The RS/RSR upgrade you're describing sounds like the ring&pinion upgrade for the 915 transmission. The downsides of that are decreased fuel economy and it runs the engine harder (you're at higher rpms for the same speed as your old tranny gears). Something to consider.

Hello
For a good work I miss four bearings, better six. They are realy expensive especially those in the Intermediate plate. Also missing the little securing nut that gets a hammer tap to lock it on the mainshaft end and some Scherspannstifte who aren´t reusable. Also depending on the trany year the screws for the axle studs have to be renewed also the protection cap for them. Later screws are reusable Porsche offered 6 different geared transmission types for the 901. ( Oh forgot the 914´s too ) Very famous where Flugplatz, Nürburgring and Hockenheim set ups. R & P where allways the same they only changed gears. This could be made much easier on the track events. On the 914 you even hadn´t to pull the trany from the engine. A diff would be usefuller... To put that trany in you need the gaskets and the screws on the halfshafts CV. Also mostly the trany speedo worm drive gear needs rebuild. Oh don´t forget the oil and all those little things that pop in your eyes.... Don´t ask me about prices. I would say it is fair. Especially if he gives a waranty. Grüsse |

I may actually have a rebuilt 901 for sale,I bought it from PartsHeaven, it was fully rebuilt. I have driven it maybe 150 miles, at best, it is in a track only car and it has been in construction all last year. My plan was to run a short wheelbase car this year, but you how it is, you see a deal and you have to go for it. I just bought a 1988 parts car with a full drive train and suspension so I am now converting over to it. Thus my 901 is no longer of use to me. Let me know if you are intrested, I can probably find the receipt, I know I can send you pictures. If you are interested in see the car it is in go to www.seetheline.com and go to page three.
Even if you are not interested in my trani, consider talking to PartsHeaven, they will take your trani as a core and sell you a complete on for about $900 |
