stripped oil tank drain - help please
I was changing the oil this weekend (second time since I have owned the car). When I took the plug out of the oil tank, I noticed thin brass wires came out too. Sure enough the brass female threads on the oil tank are stripped out.
My current thinking is to have a machine shop make me a brass sleeve that will slip over the smooth outside of the oil tank drain protrusion and solder the extension to the tank. The sleeve would be smooth where it is joined to the tank and be threaded on the inside to receive the old plug. Has anyone else run into this problem and resolved it another way? I don't think there is enough material to rethread the old female side and, even if I could, I would have to get a new plug made to fit. Thanks for any ideas you may have.

Problem solved
I should have done a search first. Found a thread on point. I am replacing with a Fumoto drain and will liquid metal it into place.

some early drainplugs were quite short on the theaded part. if that's the case, find a later, long thread plug and use the threads further up in the hole. carefully of course.
