Post Worthwhile brake upgrade

I've already got mine done, but this looks like a nice setup, if you have 16-inch wheels:

Holy crap these look nice. Cheaper than Big Reds too. Which has more stopping power, though, Brembos or Wilwoods?

Wilwood's been around since 1977, making brake kits for hot rod domestics. I don't know a whole lot about them beside that.

Some people claim they flex alot and as a result are not good for anything other than super lightweight racecars. I don't know the truth on this.

Some Wilwood brakes are not DOT legal and should not be used for everyday use. Check out the closeup of one of the calipers and you will see the absense on any rubber seals. Plenty of road grime and dust can get into the pistons. How do I know this? I was over my mechanics house the other day and he was installing these on a TR7 V8 conversion. They are nice brakes but the ones, at least that I saw, would need the same race maintenance as other race parts.

I once called Willwood and asked if they made a kit for Porsche. The answer was no.

I guess that explains the adaptors. I know these are commonly fitted to 911 race cars, so I wonder who is making the adapters.

I don't think these have any provision for emergency brakes either. Sounds like a poor choice for a street car.

But 1.5 inch wide rotors! Wow

Hello

Has seen some Wilwood on beatles and a set for 356 Carrera witch replaces the original units.

No problem as those brakes have a seperate Handbrake from the factory.

They arnīt bad.... however the Brembo arnīt bad too but I prefer ATE lookheed or AP Racing.

You americans are so focused an hughe things that I would try to sale you the new generation Mercedes Actross calipers. They have 8 Pistons, four of them 50 mm and need 20" rims to clear them. Hughe pads calculatet for 50 000 mls maintance schedules and the best they use 2,5" thick brake discs. For race and hevy duty they offer water cooled units.

Stoping power can handle a full loaded 40T truck like a average person car. Most American or some japanese SUV or AWD jeep will crash in there rear end.

Boys it is just like drop dead if you put them on your Porsche. The tire will spin on the rim.
