Backfiring solved idling problem..interesting

My car would idle normal until reaching operating temperature, then it was sluggish returning back down to idle, sometimes idling a little past 1000

today after work, the car backfired (thankfully the pop-off valve worked)....after that, I started it back up and was idling around 500, very rough....

I opened up the air filter and noticed the pop-off valve was dislodged so i fixed it and started up the car again....this time it was idling around 900 so I turned the screw counterclockwise until it got up to almost 1000 RPM.......and now the car seems a bit more jumpy, more responsive when pressing down on the accelerator....and the needle returns down to idle a lot quicker than before the backfire!

so do these cars solve their own problems? hmmm...

any thoughts? I am thinking I have some issues with the CIS, maybe a bad valve here or there.

Maybe your pop-off valve was loose and causing a vacuum leak. When you replaced it, you fixed the leak.

actually, it is possible to lift out the pop-off valve out from the plastic airbox housing....

when the car backfired, it didnt open the valve but rather lifted up the whole valve out of the whole....I guess i have to reglue it in place

It should have been securely glued in place.
