Options worn 915 input shaft gear

Upon tear-down of my 915 78 trans I found the input shaft gear pretty badly worn. The gear is knife edged badly. The gear appears to be machined on the shaft. What are my options? I will try to post a good pic for referance but so far I am not to hot with the camera. I cannot get a good image. Thanks for helping me!!!

you will need to put as much light on the subject as you can (w/o glare); use at least 2 lights that are at a 45o angle from the camera and subject (a 90o angle from each other) - if you need to, rig a diffuser for each light from an old white sheet, milk bottle, etc.

too close and the camera cannot focus (unless it has a macro lens); too far away and the pic will be too small

use a tripod to help steady the camera

take a gander at this one:
What to do While the Trans. is Out?

Bigalow,
Those gear pairs are a matched set. If your mainshaft gear is done, you mainshaft is done. You will need to get another one. Shoot me a PM if you need one. I have a couple.

Get us pictures to be sure. Your link isn't working, but from Rwebb's comments, it sounds like the picture was bad anyways. Post back and we'll help you assess it for sure...

RWebb-That is excellent camera work!!!! Very impressive and anybody that reads this check out his link. I will use your suggestions today and take another photo of the shaft.
I am not able to post a pic. I will do a search and learn how to post a pic. In 78 the main shaft was 2mm .080 inch thicker is this correct? If I purchase a used shaft and mating gear can I just swap the whole gear train

just hit the yellow "Go Advanced" button below

then follow the directions at the bottom...

I'm curious to see what yours looks like -- check the thread of mine periodically - I am going to post some info from Grady there (or start a new thread).
