distributor lubrication
Anybody lubed their distributor recently? I have mine out as a consequence of trying to trace an MSD ignition fault and thought I'd at least lube it properly before replacing the dreaded "green wire" (the distributor signal wire) and putting it back on the engine. I thought I'd find a felt oil wick under the rotor, but there's simply the little metal slug that the rotor hold-on Allen screw sets into, and under that another vertical screw. Do I need to go deeper or look elsewhere?
My distributor has a 12-wire RSR cap for twin ignition, but I believe that the workings from the rotor down are standard.

Steve, read your book last Fall. I enjoyed it.
Did a dizzy rebuild a couple of years back. Everything was in good shape. For maintenance, I remove the felt plug and add 2 or 3 drops of motor oil down there. I do this 2x per year. Your dizzy would likey have the same general bearing surface that needs to lubricated. Cheers.

But where is the felt plug? When I take off the rotor--which is a 12-plug rotor, but I think it's on a standard shaft--there's only metalwork under it.

Good question. I'm not familiar with the inner workings of a 12 plug dizzy.
I would have thought it would be built around the same shaft and bearing principles as per the Bosch design.

The felt plug was removed to make room for the RSR rotor.
Just drip a little oil on top of that screw that you see under the rotor.
