Porsche distributor dust cover
How important is this part? I get prices from $18 to $76 bucks. Having a problem with starting 1984 Carerra when it's wet out or after washing car. I am about to add some dielectric grease around base of cap and noticed this cover was missing a good bit of the edge. I am wondering if this could be contributing to the problem?

Mine has been off for about ten years now and no starting problems when wet. But now that you mention it, maybe I'll put mine back on. Just because it is there, LOL. But you'll be fine without it.

Hi

My '84 has that black over as well as some type of plastic gasket between the cap and distr.

I am no expert, but, I believe your system is very similar to the 1987 944 Motronic. So, with that said, if your distributor cap is cracked as you mentioned an edge missing...this certainly would be a problem when the car gets water in there. Replace your distributor cap and rotor at this point and you should be fine. Just my opinion...and good luck. ![]()
