Post condenser blower: thermostat?

I've noticed on my '85 Carrera that when I have the air conditioning on, the blower on the front condenser isn't on 100% of the time. Is it always supposed to be on while the A/C is on, or is it thermostatically controlled? I don't know if the cut off is normal per thermostat, or if the motor's going bad & its cutting out by itself. Thanks.
regards,
jlex.

There's no thermostat for the front blower - it should come on whenever the A/C is turned on. There is a relay for the blower, #6 in the fuse/relay panel in the luggage compartment. It's the relay closest to the front of the car. You may want to check and clean the relay contacts or temporarily substitute another working relay to see if this is the problem.

I have noticed the front blower only comes on when the A/C compressor is engaged.

Therefore if you set your A/C thermostat in the low coldness range, with the fan on low, the compressor (and front blower) will run for a little while, then shut off for a little while, thermostatically controlled, somewhat.

Turn the A/c to full cold, and full fan (cabin) speed, the A/C compressor, and front blower will be on all the time, unless you are in a full-throttle accelerating (and a few other) condition(s).

Thanks, Nick. I have the blower relay in my pocket, and was on the verge of ordering a new relay this morning, but I think I'll take a closer look at how the blower operates in relation to my compressor. You may be right... it may cycle off and on according to when the compressor is engaged.

jlex.
