Yesterday, I had a problem with the fresh (cold) air blower on my 1988 Carrera Coupe.
Everything was working fine, until I got a strong burning smell coming from the air vents. This eventually subsided, but now I find that the fresh air blower works VERY slowly. Does this mean that the blower motor is burnt out ? If so, can anyone please describe how I would dismantle the trim in order to reach the motor...a workshop manual page would be useful. Please help...I have only had the car a week !! |

Ok, this is an answer to very old post, but still.
Last night I opened the fresh air blower because it did not function at all in my car. It was nice driving in rain..windows open if you wanted to see something.. Well anyway. With a little help from the hammer I got the thing apart and what I found was that the motor has these old fashioned magnets around the "coil" (DC motor). These coils are attached to the body with some Epoxy or some other gluie and the other magnet had come loose. The magnet had jammed the rotating "coil" thingie (dunno whats it english) and also because of the jamming there were some burned wires inside. I cleaned up the motor, re-glued the other magnet to its place. Attached some new wire and Voila! Its working now. The magnet had been loose for a while before it failed because there were these big gashes on the magnet. |

These cars have a multitude of fans.
Since i have owned mine (18 months). The fresh air fan and the a/c cold air supply fan have both died - sounding like a tortured squirrel!. yesterday a burning smel came when I turn on the heater fan and now that does not work!. These seem to be yet another weakness in the electrical system. The only fan I have replaced at great expense so far is the a/c fan!. good luck with jury-rigging and tinkerring but the end solution will be either finding a bosch motor that resembles your original or digging deep into your pockets- something I am all too familiar with!. good luck rgds Ben |

I had this same situation happen to me, also about a week after I owned the car (86 cab). It was easy to access the blower from within the trunk. All you have to do is pull the carpeting away from the area behind the dash and remove the covering that is underneath the carpet. The fresh air fan is right in the center (round with 2 outlets). The motor in my fan was fried - no hope of repair. I got a used one from PartsHeaven (www.partsheaven.com) for $63 and it has worked fine since. Hope this helps!
