Another Central Lock Question...
I've searched for a while and can't find the answer to this problem.
Sometimes the central locks in my 88 work fine. Other times, when I hit the button in the center console, the door locks will lock, and then about a second later they unlock. It hasn't been an issue for me before, but I am installing an alarm in the car and would like them to work correctly. It is not the alarm causing the problem, as I have disconnected it and the problem is still there. Any ideas? |
You need to adjust the rods. They are right on the edge of proper adjustment so sometimes they will bounce off the end of the throw and unlock. Just a minor tweek but you have to remove the door panels.

Why does it unlock the doors if the rod is not adjusted correctly? I know there are switches inside the actuator to tell the controller if the doors are locked or unlocked. Is it built into the contoller logic to unlock the doors if the locks don't make it to the locked position?

OK... I'll try this again.
I have burned up 2 lock actuators on the driver's side now. Sometimes the doors lock ok, sometimes they lock, then immediately unlock. Once in a while they will lock, and power stays applied to the actuators. That's what killed the actuator.(2X) I have adjusted the actuator position and check the up/down switches with a meter. They are set correctly. The open/close microswitches on the lock cylinders are working correctly. I checked the wiring and it checks out OK. The only thing left is the controller. Any ideas before I buy a controller? |
Don,
Did you ever solve the problem? Sound a lot like my '86 |
