head light removal

86 carrera coupe euro style, Took off black ring by removing screw on bottom, Now it looks like there is another ring under it with 2 screws, Seems to be these are adjusting screws. Is this one piece part of the light or does this need to come off also? How do I get it off, afraid to force anything, passeger side light lens seems to be dirty, compared to drivers side. The owners manual says to remove ring then 4 screws but I only see the 2. I tried to find the answer by searching the forums but I only come up with push down and pull out on the whole assembly. Don't want to mess up the paint by trying to pry with a screwdriver or other tool. I've worked on many cars but this is my first porsche and I'm getting frustrated.

Look where the first screw you removed was. There is another (slotted) screw that the first screw screwed into. Remove that and the whole headlight assembly will lift off. There is a flange holding the top of the headlight in place. The manual reference is to the DOT (non-Euro) style headlight assembly.

Thanks for the info, the vehicle is in really nice condition and I don't want to mess anything up because "I didn't know". I see you are the owner of an 86 coupe. This one sure looks nice, the problems are mechanical and wiring in nature (found 3 mice living in it) and so far only found 4 wires they chewed through, 3 of which were for the stereo. Also get that loud banging noise from the right front wheel when I hit a bump. Figure thats the strut and should need to be replaced. Any experience with this? I ordered the Bently service manual 84-89 911 but it won't get here for a couple more days. With the rain falling outside (live in western Massachusetts) and going to keep raining for the next 2 days figured good time to get a jump on things even though I don't have the service manual yet, thats why I posted the question. One other ? if you don't mind, Are there seats in the back? All I see is the flat top of 2 like glove compartments with a steel bar on them, almost seems like they should fold up or something. Need to get at the rear window deck to expose speaker wiring, seems as though the installer messed up the wiring or the mice got at those also. Did not look like a pro job on the stereo install (Sony xr-c300) as the speker wire conections were just twisted together and taped, I'm soldering them and using heat shrink. There was a 10 disc changer in the trunk but I removed that (thats were the mice did chewing that I could see) only 3 of the 4 speakers work but the balance and fader don't coincide with the adjustments on the radio. So it seems that they cut the wires for the origonal speakers and changed them to Pioneers but they do sound good so I want to disconnect the wires at the speakers and do a continuity check to each one that runs up front so I can make sure the proper wires are conncted from the radio to the speakers, hence needing to get to the back deck/dash. Its killing me because I'm 6' 2" and 250 lbs and almost got stuck in the back last night trying to figure how to get at the wires for the rear speakers. At least the wires from the radio are marked by factory.

What you have is a rear seat delete option. Since the rear seats are pretty much useless unless you are six years old, many consider what you have as desirable. Good luck with your re-wiring chores. The Bentley manual will help considerably. It's a good investment for all types of maintenance!

BTW, welcome to the best automotive forum on the planet! You will learn more from the people on this board than you could possibly learn anywhere else. You DO need to post some pics of your car right away if you want to stay in the good graces of your fellow Pelicans though! It's customary to post pics of your car on your first post. We enjoy seeing everyone's cars, especially new members.
