OK so I just pulled my spare factory Turbo/ Tea tray spoiler and non turbo engine (read small opening not for inter-cooler clearance) lid off the garage wall and weighed it on the bathroom scale. It weighed in at 37 LBS.

It has no latches, A/C bracket, or anything else mounted. Just the tail and the lid.

Hope this helps,

Thanks, it does help. Looks like about a 25# loss going from an OEM Tea Tray to glass Duck, maybe a couple more if you go with the spendy CF one from Getty.

That's a nice weight reduction, especially as it is high and to the rear. Plus the Duck keeps some lift reduction.

Time to Duck.

Thanks for the info. This is about what I thought it would be. Did you try to sell the Tray? If so at what price?
tom

Tom I have not tried to sell my spare tail and am not planning on it either. I bought it to have as a back-up in case some idiot ran in to the rear of my car and ruined the one on their now.

I have seen them on here for anywhere from about 500 for the tail base & rubber to about 900 for complete lid, base, & rubber. These prices depend on condition and if these are for factory pieces, aftermarket ones usually go for less. Of course I do not know what the difference in asking price and selling prices were, if any.

just once more, any of the factory tails w/ p/u lips are going to be heavy relative to any of the aftermarket parts.

A duck or RSA aftermarket type on a steel lid will fit as well as stock. And be quite light. On a tracked car the difference is noticeable.

The best aero
993RS/CS > 993 biplane > Tea tray > RSA > duck/964/993stock n/a > plain. Again on a tracked car the differnce is noticeable

Following up on the fit of the MA Shaw ducktail.

It fits good from an outward appearance. The one issue I have is the gap between the sides and the lid opening in the chassis. The bottom edges of the duck don't seem to get down into the channel quite far enough. The tail looks like its partially open (from the side) even when you've got the duck laying as flat as possible on the chassis, with no rubber bumper nubs or the latch assembly installed. I suppose most all ducks appear that way?

The install of the latch is challenging when you don't realize how to adjust the depth of the plunger. I did not know that the spring seat is actually a big stamped sheetmetal jam nut!

Overall the tail installs very easily. The part that is the most work is the install of the grille. The four corners require you to do some shaping of the base fiberglass in order for a nut and washer to be install-able.
