Was the Targa bar originally gloss or semi gloss or what? Any recommendations on paint brand?

I always thought the black targa bar covers were an anodized finish. A satin/semigloss paint would probably be the best match. Definitely not full gloss.

There was a thread abou this 2-3 days ago. It covers the type of paint to get the original look and painting methods. It's title "Targa bar before and after" and is located at http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/Forum3/HTML/009074.html.

I don't believe mine was anodized, because I remember sanding the old paint down a bit to get the primer to adhere better. I shot mine with a couple good coats of satin black laquer. Still looks good two years later.
Check out Tom Sharpes '74 Targa page...he has an article on how to repaint the targa bar. (That is if he hasn't deleted the site after his "traitorous" move to the 911C2/4 front)
