Cam options - 3.2 RoW Carrera

Folks

Having problems getting hold of John Dougherty to order DC19 cams. And believe me i have tried.......So what are my alternatives?

I'm thinking 20/21 cams, but has anyone got the Jerry Woods GE3.2 fitted?

Car is a RoW 3.2, cam needs to be street friendly, with no peaky-ness and emphasis on usable torque.

Cheers

Just a thought on the cams. If doing for the "Just cause I'm in there" factor keep in mind that altering the cams will bump you into modified classes in SCCA and other clubs for things such as autocross. I now wish I had never had mine re-ground.
Supprised you can't get ahold of John. I called him several times about doing mine and he was always there and always helpfull.

I've had good luck with a plain-jane 964 grind. I enlarged the engine at the same time, but understand them to be good on stock 3.2s as well.

You can use 964 cams. All that needs to be done with them is have the power steering pump drive gear ground off. Used cams should be relatively cheap (I got a set of stock 3.2 USA cams for $150) and you then have your originals on hand if the issue arises that dfink mentions.

The WebCam 20/21 is a popular choice for 3.0 and 3.2 users. Another alternative for cams is the Elgin SC330 grind. Their website is www.elgincams.com

Super C2 for a streetable cam. I drove Bruce's car at Snetterton last year with these. Its nice and it idles pretty well unlike my Supercup cams.

I have the Super C2 (Dougherty DC20). Be careful with this cam as it has enough lift to cause tight piston-to-valve clearance. Spec for this cam at TDC overlap is 2.2-2.4mm I could only get 1.85mm and still have enough piston-to-valve clearance on the intake side. My engine is a US 3.2L, so it has the 9.5:1 pistons

Just talked to John - First call he picked up the phone. Let him know what was up so I think he will be chiming in. Like I said he was great to work with and very friendly to talk to.

Are you sure you have the correct number 530-672-2286

Also to clarify my statement about wishing I had not done the regrind. It is not due to a performance or quality issue. The cams work OK they extended the torque about another 200 RPM or so. No miracle HP gains. Also don't forget that if you are changing the cam you need to have the rockers resurfaced or replaced. The rockers actually cost more than the cams.

With the cam regrind I get bumped to SM2 with the 400HP mazda rx-7s and Z06 corvettes. Without the grind I would be in BSP. Of course I would still be getting my butt kicked....

Thanks dfink, John just pm'd me. Deffo used the correct number (as per the website) as the recorded msg states DRCams.

And for the record, i've had a great response from John previously to my many questions which is why he was my first choice in the first place. I guess busy is a good sign.

The power of the internet? Quite possibly.......will keep you posted.

Cheers

Well, i give up.

Sure John has his reasons for zero response, but i can't operate like this. Stressed several times I needed cams by end May and still nothing.

Looking elsewhere.
