Porsche vs Nine Year-Olds

I took my 9 year-old nephew for his first ride in the 911E. The very first thing he said when he saw it was, "That car looks really old." He doesn't understand chrome.

So I strap him into the seat and show him how to tighten the racing harness. I'm not sure he can even see over the dash.

But we went for a moderately quick drive around the block and up the highway and back again. He got a taste of low-end torque on the on-ramp and threshold braking at the lights. We took one hard left-hander with plenty of throttle.

When we got back, it was like he'd just gotten off a roller coaster. This is a kid who is not impressed by dry-sumps and air-cooling. He could really care less about Le Mans. But for whatever reason, the 911 got to him. Probably the same reason it still gets to us, I guess.

Nice work sander, you've corrupted another little boy into the Porsche way. Poor kid doesn't stand a chance. He'll probably buy his first Boxster throw-away car in 8 years.
