My 77 911 2.7 has been giving me fits for past few months. Car does not want to idle at 750-800 rpm after revving up will stick at about 2000 rpm unless I engage cluth to bump rpm down, put on accumulator, wur and now replacing fuel distributor. Also car just started running much hotter and does not want to start when hot, engine turns over slower and acts like no spark or fuel wait till cold and it does start but acts like its too lean, rumble stumble cough and then it smooths out. Any suggestions?

Are the distributor mechanical advance weights working properly? Pull the rotor and lubericate the felt pad under it, this is often forgotten during routine maintenance.

Have you checked your fuel pressures, system and control pressures? What is causing you to believe the fuel distributor is your problem? Has your mixture been set correctly? Ignition timing OK?

I think that you should look at the operation of the aux air valve and aux air regulator, and also the vacuum limiter (deceleration valve). They could be malfunctioning and causing the high rpm.

It does sound like your distributor advance mechanism is sticking. A simple tune-up, with mixture adjustment is the next step. Then look at symptoms again.

I adjusted my Decel valve to prevent the "floating" idle problem. Back off locknut (yes, it is tough) and then use a 6 or 7mm to turn the threaded post in.

Thanks, I thought of that and distributor is ok and weights & springs are fine.
