Post Removing aluminum door trim

I just searched the archives and didn't find anything.

Does anyone know how to remove the aluminum trim from the top of the doors? It looks like they may just be pressed on, but I do not want to damage them during removal, so I thought I'd ask first.

Thanks,
Charlie

It's just pressed in. When I removed mine there were plastic clips on the back of the strip. They should be reusable but I ordered replacements from Pelican which are metal.

The trim is snapped down with plastic
expansion pins. You have to get under
the trim adjacent to the pin location and
gently pry up. A putty knife works. Lining
up the pins to reassemble is a little tricky.
The pins slide on the trim.

If yours is not too "stuck" you can sometimes also slide the whole strip carefully so one edge hangs over the edge of the door, and then lift up on that.

Be careful as it is very easy to damage your paint while working with these fairly large trim pieces!

Thanks everyone!

I'll try removing them tonight. I'm not worried about ruining paint, although others may need to be more careful (my car is being stripped to bare metal for paint).

If you are going to use a putty knife or some other tool to pry up the trim, place a couple layers of masking tape along the door first. That way you won't scuff the paint. Good luck

Hello

They are fixed with some ( 7 ) clamps normaly you lift up one end and brake loose each clamp.

Those clamps are very simple and reusable. But on the early cars made from NLA plastic. Later cars had steel and this is no problem ( Well they do rust )
