Wire burn.. What next

Lots of smoke and singed wire. I have chased a shorted wire mess across the front of the car behind the dashboard in the front compartment. All of the air system and ducting is removed. I still cant find the color of the wire as the covering is just dust. It cut through the electric tape but did not do to much damage to the other wires.

It started from a short against the hood trunk shock on the passangers side , possibly a brown /white wire was involved. The ignition was off and I removed the battery connection but it took about a minuite.

I am into the drivers corner and the wiring is almost impossible to work with as it branches everywhere. I checked the fuse panel and no signs of damage there. I think the wire exits before that point.

It seems virtually impossible to proceed farther without totally removing the whole wire harness?? This is depressing. Has anyone had to do this and what is involved. That corner of the car as far as the wiring is concerned looks like a nightmare???? What next thanks

Possible resulting from the trunk area light. Some folks unplug it to keep it from draining the batt. with the hood up up for extended periods not realizing that the wire is hot or the glove box wire. Search my earlier thread: HOLY SMOKES!!! Hopefully you're not looking at a new harness $$$.
