Yah, I got one... An old cruddy one that is
![]() Wife says I need to trade it for a power boat though... Anyone interested in a swap of all sorts of VW goodies for a ~25' cuddy cruiser with an inboard V-8? I am not picky. I am guessing you want to start going to campouts? Check out www.type2.com for a good starting place. Or http://www.fullmoonbusclub.com/ for a list of campouts. |

I used to have one. It was '69 model, sandy beige and battleship grey primer. It started out life as a German Telecom crew bus and was converted into a camper at some point - it even had Laura Ashley polka dot curtains! It looked really rough, but never gave any trouble. We spent two summers touring Europe in it, sticking to the backroads and setting up camp where and when we felt like it. We once pulled into a parking lot high in the Pyrenees and were greeted with applause from all the people that overtook us on the way up! Trying to find first gear for some of those uphill hairpins in that thing was interesting to say the least. It was the most underpowered vehicle I've ever driven. You had no choice but to relax and take your time.

Oh yah! The models from 68-71 were horrible for power since they had the old type 1 motor with about 50 HP and tall gears.
Always go for type 4 power (similar to the 914 engine) post 71 or early split window busses with the reduction gear boxes. Granted on my '66 I avoid interstates if possible but I can crawl up a hill all day in third ![]() Plus you would not believe all the waves and conversations that start up from driving that thing around... Makes 911 head turning power look like dog poop. ------------------ Adrian Pillow 1979 911 SC 1966 VW Microbus PCA - Peachstate Region |
