head temp sensor replaced
 

Had the head temperature sensor knocking around the garage for a couple of months, waiting for a good opportunity to replace the old one wire unit with the new, 2 wire sensor.
Rather than waste time in front of the TV last night, and since it was raining with nothing else to do, I did the upgrade.... time: 2 hrs. from start to finish.
No problems at all. The Pelican tech article is really helpful. For the record, you'll have to take the old one out with a 13mm deep socket. The new sensor is 14mm. (John Walker is right again!)
Biggest pain was removing and installing the upper rubber grommet in the engine tin. The metal bracket in the engine compartment that holds the connector is dealt with by prying out a retaining clip with a screwdriver.
For the older cars (mine's an '85 Carrera 2.3) think about replacing this item before it gives you problems.
Next preventative maintenance project: replace clutch cable.

wet style silicone spray on those grommets helps a lot.

John, what about contaminating the O2 sensor. I think I've heard that silicone sprayed in vicinity can ruin it.
