someone had schnoor washers 4sale

On one of the cv threads... I can't find it now someone had a leftover bag of cv bolt schnoor washers.. I want to be green and not have them thrown out.. I hope Wayne doesn't mind too much... I have an 89 3.2 car and I'm guessing the bolts are 10mm. but not sure.. does someone know?

I bought some from McMaster.com. The bag was labelled Schnorr.
$9.25 for 100 black steel or $13.00 for 25 Stainless Steel.

I don't know if you've been reading my cv and rear bearing travails.. not going well today.. I might have taken out a rear bearing that was good...
anyway
on my car 89 3.2 there is no sign of any type of washer and none shown in Pelican... so I guess I don't need them. The bolts are 9.9mm and allen head and they go against the 1/4 moon plates... that's it. The car has run track days and AX/etc. for 7 years and no issues with coming loose... sorry for the false alarm...

This is interesting, and relevant to me as well. I have just done the CV's on my 1978SC, and when I took them off - just like you with you - there was no sign of washers or evidence that any had been used. So I am not sure if I should install with washers or not?

kroggers.. what I did was put dabs of paint where the bolt heads come against the 1/4 moon plates. Then I checked from time to time to be sure the bolts were not moving... I think the design idea is that the friction between the flange and cv face is supposed to take the load. All the bolts do is supply the required normal force. This is why you want the flanges clean and free of any burrs. I use a stone and go over them before mating. I would say the schnoor washers are not needed.. but they could help... I don't know, they would have to bight into the bottom of the bolt head and moon plates I think to do a lot of good.

try fastenal. they have the washers and the bolts. you can get a bag of 50 for the price of what most sell 12 for. plus, you can specify the length, i bought some so the threads just made it all the way through the holes in the flange.

I am curious as well. My 80 had neither moon plates nor Schnoors and the bolts were just tightened against the cv joint. Am I the victim of a P.O. bad project?
Do I nee to be ordering some of each?
