1976 911s Ferry Porsche Signature Edition Basket Case Rebuild

Hello all! My name's Josh, new to the forum been lurking for a bit. I own a small custom auto shop in Oregon. I have been a custom car freak as long as I can remember. Grew up helping my Granpappy in his shop restore old fords. He's long been passed on but I still have his shop "Louie's Garage". We do alot more than Old fords now, every thing from 23 ford all steel rods to mini trucks, BMWs and now Porsche. I've always loved Porsche's as a kid I had 911 posters plastered on my walls. So I picked up a wrecked 1976 911s signature edition the other day. Got it to the shop and as thing often are it is a bit worse off than my initial assessment. Chassis is twisted pretty good. I am fairly confidant some time on the Celette machine in the cable hands of Chris at Canyon Auto Rebody will get things squared away.

Some pics of the carnage

Welcome, Josh! Looks like a big job ahead of you. I saw that car offered in Springfield a while back. I thought it might be too far gone to save, but I know very little about body/frame work. Good luck, and keep us posted!

It looks like a tremendous amount of work, it really got hit very hard in the rear. I don't know if I would go down that road right now as there are many rollers out there offered in much better shape. Straightening that car out in the rear may not even be possible.

For example, there is a nice '74 with a blown engine on offer right now for $4K in the for sale section. There were two decent roller SCs offered inexpensively last week. If you are in the game, I would hold off and look for some other stuff. The signature edition is not that well known and not too valuable right now. If you want to hold onto it and have storage for it it might be a better way to go.

It may very well be to far gone, but the car spoke to me lol.... it said "take me home and fix me I'll be good to you".... I said hey we'll give it shot! There is talk around the shop of a tube frame open wheel car if it doesn't work out but thats just crazy!

First off CountD let me say "thank you" for some good advice. I am in the process of looking for another car or roller possibly a bare naked tub if I could find one.

Spotted a complete 912 but that's another project all together, no title floor full of holes type project.

Spoke to Chris at canyonautorebody.com today he is confident they can get the car back into shape on the cellete machine without alot of difficulty. They would also r&r both rear subframe rails after the pull while the car is still locked down on the machine. At that point we could take the car back to our shop and complete the remaining body work. The price was really not to far off from what I had anticipated.

My plans at this point are to get the car flipped over and tore down to evaluate the condition of the rest of the car.

Never saw it in person, was offered on craigslist a few months ago. I believe the seller in Spfld sold it to a guy in Salem who was hoping to flip it. Seems like I saw it on craigslist in Salem a short time ago, too. Probably the guy you bought it from in Salem.

Hi Josh,
That is the car Brad had for many years while his shop was up-and-running. I thought he also had the motor for it. I can get you in contact if you didn't get it.
As far as the 912, was it the one in Lebanon? In my 25 years with these cars, that was the first I've seen for sale that was hopeless. (and being a 912 that sez a lot). Good luck with your project.

Here is another one

I just found this forum and I realize that no one has posted for quite a while but wanted to post to let people know that there is yet another 1976 911 Signature edition living. My parents bought it brand new and went to Germany and watched it be placed on the ship. About 10 years ago my father gifted it to me. So it is a one family owned car.
I would love to connect with more lovers of these cars...BTW this one lives in Boise.

Hey fellow oregonian! Whereabouts are you located?
I'm in Wilsonville (Portlandish). Looks like a heck of a project, but hey, if you have the patience!
