Oil temp gauge reading backward

I'm slightly puzzled. I got the 68 back from the shop with the engine installed (70 2.2 T engine). The oil temp gauge reads hot from the moment you start the car, and as it warms up moves toward the middle from the right. Is the oil temp sender different for the 70 engine and my 68 gauge is reading the signal opposite?

Did you try reversing the wires on the sender?

I'm pretty much a novice electrically... just a thought.
