Hello all,
Well trying to sort out my seat replacement options, and have kind of chosen the Corbeau Carrera Seat. Has anyone used these seats? Are they taller then stock seats? (I'm within an inch of the roof as it is!) Any issues that I should be concerned with? Try to change my mind? What woudl be your reccomendation? thanks Here is a picture of them http://www.corbeau.com/brochure/images/carrera_black.jpg ------------------ Get in, Sit down, Shut up and HOLD ON! 1978 911 SC [This message has been edited by kamikazepilot (edited 04-19-2001).] |

These are the same seats I'm looking into getting, ans I just recieved info from Corbeau today in the mail. I haven't got a chance to sit in one yet, but EBS out of Reno sells them at the least expensive price I have found so far.

I just got a pair of Corbeau Targa RS seats, to replace some existing Recaro something-or-others. When I put the driver's one in, it looked to be about the same overall height as the Recaro, but I didn't sink as deep into the new seat as the old one -- and my head and a helmet suddenly didn't fit under the sunroof.
I modified the mounting brackets for the new seats by cutting the crossmembers and welding in a piece of steel on each side that now drops the center section down by 3/4 of an inch. However, I haven't yet installed the new setup, so I can't tell you how it works. I'm 5'11", and -- even before the modification -- I fit fine in the new seats. The problem was only when I tried towear my helmet. When I get the car back from the brake guy, I'll let you know how it works. The Corbeaus seem like well-made seats, and their prices are very reasonable. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 04-19-2001).] |

Vic Elford suggests that one sit as low as possible. What's been the solution on track cars to achieve this?

The guys at Autotoystore claim that they have and will beat the best price on the internet for these seat.
There are the cheapest that I have found at $369.95 (+ Brackets) not to bad I like the fact that there are wear pads on the high stress points, that makes them one up on the rest of the seats. http://autotoystore.com/carerra_corbeau.html Did you get a better price then that? ------------------ Get in, Sit down, Shut up and HOLD ON! 1978 911 SC |

Yes I would agree that you want to sit as low as possible, but with brackets and sliders to aftermarket seats, is that possible?
That is my question! I am 5'11" with short legs, long torso so I am just about an 1" to 2" for hitting my head now! Don't want to buy them and be disapointed, but I really like these seats. ------------------ Get in, Sit down, Shut up and HOLD ON! 1978 911 SC |

I have heard of people lowering the stock seats somehow to get a little more headroom.
Has anyone done this, or know how? Tom |

I think the Corbeau seats you are looking are narrower, perhaps too narrow, in the hip and leg bolster areas. They are a good looking seat and the brand is often brought up.
I recently put Monaco Targa RS seats in my 78SC. I am very satisfied. These are almost identicle to the seats Jack put in Black Beauty. At least it looks that way from the photos. The brackets that came with mine raised the seat 2 inches. I returned them and was able to utilize the factory sliders by merely drilling a mounting hole in the OEM braket to correspond to the Monaco bolt pattern on the bottom of the seat. I was able to lower the seat about 1 inch from the factory position. I also repositioned the forward/aft mounting holes in the OEM braket. I was able to gain a good three inches. In fact I can know slide my seat almost to the rear seats. Being you have short legs, I'm 6'1", this is probably unnecessary, but may be helpful to others. The cost of my Monaco seats in leatherette (I have a Targa and leather does not do well in the sun) was about $700. ---------------------------- Paul 78SC Targa |

I got mine from the Auto Toy Store, as a matter of fact. Their prices are great. If you get yours there, tell Jim that Jack Olsen says hello, and will send pictures of the new seats when they're installed.
In fact, Black Beauty is now on the AutoToyStore.com website: http://www.autotoystore.com/gallery3.html ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net |

Engine Builders Supply has the Corbeau seats for $370 + brackets as well. If memory serves me right the brackets were $70 for each seat. I just like to buisness with them when I can't with Pelican because they are good people. I met Don weaver at Thunder Hill Race Way a couple months back, and he's really a nice guy.

Thanks for all the input,
To a couple of the issues. 1. I am not sure that they are more narrow. I have attached the dimensions so that you can compare to yours... http://www.corbeau.com/brochure/carreradim.html 2. I may not buy the brackets and just see if I can mod the existing stock ones. Thanks for the idea. ------------------ Get in, Sit down, Shut up and HOLD ON! 1978 911 SC |

Thanks for the post ....... I'm in the same place.
Looking at the Carrera or the Targa. The guy from the Corbeau website replyed back that the Targa is wider at the hips. FYI. But I too, like the new Carrera. Me, like everyone else am 6'0. Concerned about headroom with my helmet on. So Jack, let us know how it is after you get your car back. I may resort to recoloring my seats. Not something that I look forward to. |

They're still in the garage. I get the car back today, but am going to take it to the track directly from the shop.
I'll probably get the seats in this weekend, and I'll report on the changes. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net |

And the A4's are for cars with little head room (Smaller lower cushion) so that is an option.

Gee how helpful they are at Corbeau...
Here is the answer to my questions.... ************ Im sorry all the seats that we have that are wide enough, will sit too high. Regards, Spencer . Ok all just got some good news!
Talked to Spencer at Corbeau and here is his recomendation... Targa RS with 1" of foam shaved from the seat base. This mod will cost $60 per seat, will lower the seat to about stock height. He also suggested that elimination of the slider will also lower the seat about an 1 1/4". Between the two, (as no one else drives my baby!) would gain me some head room. I also think that I could make a drop bracket that would negate the height of the slider. So, I guess that is the best option. Also, the Carrera seat will be tight in the lower rib cage area, not at the hips. I am going to a shop in South Sanfrancisco to test sit a few of the seats as they are a fully stocking dealer. Will let you all know how it goes.. Randy ------------------ Get in, Sit down, Shut up and HOLD ON! 1978 911 SC |
