That is ridiculous!

All but the end cylinders use twin plugs too. What are the power specs on that?

Panorama, February 2008 cover?

In the car at Rennsport III. The motor doesn't run but the museum is going to rebuild it soon.

Count the wires carefully. They're all twin plug. The riser on the end is mid cylinder, not between cylinders.

+1 as to me it looks like there are 16 wires going in to 9 different plug locations on the side of that beast. Just like a twin plug 6 looks like is has a single plug on the ends of covers.

Hey I think that might be the 16 Zylinder 917 spyder. "Porsche 917 the Winning Formula" by Peter Morgan mentions that the later turbocharged motor underwent a difficult development, but the flat 12 saw flash horsepower figures of more than 1,500 hp, and he describes the grinning test engineers as coyly "half petrified, half elated".

Of course! It was designed for mid-engine configuration. It looks like the they have one in the spyder and one on a stand, so one for you and one for me. I saw the engine in person at the factory museum many years ago.;)
No one left me alone long enough to smuggle it out back then. :(

One can dream of driving something like that with a 16 cylinder engine in it...

JohnJL 05-08-2008 07:13 AM
