Windows wont go up or down

Help! My window came of track so I took the door panel off to fix it. when I did the wires from the window switch came off. when I put them back on I touched two metal point and it sparked. I checked the fuses and I'm pretty sure the wires or on correctly but the window wont go up. the passenger side doesn't work either and I didn't touch that side. If anyone has some advice that would be great. I have a car cover but it is supposed to rain and I want to put my windows up. Thanks Porsche friends

Power Windows......

Seymore,

Just finished reading and analyzing the power window wiring diagram for '77S this evening. I'm assisting a member determine the problem with the power window relay and your problem might be some some what similar. If your power window motor is not turning, check fuse #21 and the power window relay for starter.

Although you did not mention the year and model of your car, the wiring diagrams from '77 to early Carrera have not changed significantly. So locate the fuse and relay for your power window circuit. HTH.

Contact John Pedersen.......

Seymore,

I just got word from him that he was able to locate the problem of his power windows. His problem was that the power window motor won't stop running even after removing the relay. Gave him some suggestions where to look and check. His last email to me was that the power window is now working as it should be. Your problem is the opposite of his but the approach in determining the problem is some what similar. Good luck.

That' really odd. Are you sure the fuse is okay? These things are notorious for popping fuses. What happens is that wire that runs through the door frays and make contact.

Do you have a Bentley manual? It has the wiring diagram for the switches. Double check that you've got the right wires attached to the right posts for the driver and passenger switches. I've put them back incorrectly a number of times. There really isn't much else that can go wrong with them.

A typical 4-point horn or window relay could be tested if the coil is good or bad by energizing terminals #86 and #85. Apply 12 volts across #86 (+) and #85 (-). These are the coil terminals that do the ON/OFF switching between terminals #30 and #87. Terminals #30 and #87 are NC (normally closed). When the coil is energized, it closes the contacts between #30 and #87. You could hear the clicking sound made by the coil during switching. Do you know where to locate the relay and the fuse for the relay? Bentley manual has a good section that tells about this subject.
