I recently noticed that some oil is spreading inside the cooling fan housing, as if inhalated by the fan. My oil consumption seems to be remaining very low.
Any idea where it is leaking from ? Anybody already noticed the same problem on their car ? I don't think it is too serious (no oil on my garage floor, low oil consumption) but I hate it when the engine becomes dirty... Please help, thanks ------------------ Pierrick Carrera 3.2L '88 |

Two major possibilities:
1) Oil pressure/oil thermometer connections on right side of the fan housing 2) Crankshaft seal. If it's a minor leak, the oil may be "sucked" up by the fan belt. I replaced all copper rings on 1) and the seal 2) and my fan & housing is now oil-free. Any other leak you should note also underneath the engine. I think the main problem is not the "dirtyness" of the engine, but after a few months, you have so much gunk in your heating system, that you smell like you have changed the engine oil after a 100 mile ride. (My wife immediately recognizes when I drive my baby hard ![]() Hope this helps, jens |

Thank you Jens, this does help.
After looking more closely to my engine compartment, my problem apparently comes from the crankshaft seal : the oil definitely comes from "down there". I'll try to get it fix soon to avoid smelling oil next winter ! This forum is great ![]() ------------------ Pierrick Carrera 3.2L '88 |
