Tail, tail, or not tail
What looks best on an red 85 Carrera?
1. No tail 2. 73 RS Duck tail 3. 74 Carrera Tail (76/77 turbo style) 4. 80's Carrera tail 5. 930 / turbo tail |

1 and 4 tied, depends on the rest of the car.
2 3 5 again depends on whether you have a front spoiler, wide tires, lowered, etc. Body color is not so relevant. |

7&8 Fuchs w black centers (may paint), sticky Dunlops, Euro height, factory sport seats, may remove rear rubber bumpers, have a set of retro Rally hood lights that may or may not go on...

What you are going to do with it comes into it. Stab the brakes hard at 130+ and you will go get a wing after you wash out the undies...
Other then that... The rear lid is easy to swap so having more then one choice is nice. The real deal is: What do you like? Design by committee usually sucks the soul out of things.

I would have to say, the factory Carrera tail.

I think that the unbroken curve from the top of the front windshield to the rear bumper is a beautiful bit of design that really works for a street car.

I've wondered the same thing for my '84 Carrera but a tailless coupe is a thing of beauty. I'm inclined to keep mine clean.

3, 2, 1 in that order
I too have 1, 2 & 3. Love the look of the duck, but for track I like my 75 Carrera style tail.
Same car, but significantly different look from one tail to the next: ![]()

I have the "standard" 3.2 whale tail (also used on the RS America and by Alois Ruf on the original 200 mph "Yellow Bird" CTR). Looks aside, it's amazing how "planted" the car feels at 100+ mph. I'm a believer.
