1 and 4 tied, depends on the rest of the car.
2
3
5

again depends on whether you have a front spoiler, wide tires, lowered, etc. Body color is not so relevant.

What you are going to do with it comes into it. Stab the brakes hard at 130+ and you will go get a wing after you wash out the undies...

Other then that... The rear lid is easy to swap so having more then one choice is nice. The real deal is: What do you like? Design by committee usually sucks the soul out of things.

Cool Tail #4

I would have to say, the factory Carrera tail.

But...then again, I might be biased, in my vote!

johndglynn,

Yours is one of my fav's. It is the first of several car pics I have in a word doc for a reference of what I most like.

I think that the unbroken curve from the top of the front windshield to the rear bumper is a beautiful bit of design that really works for a street car.

I've wondered the same thing for my '84 Carrera but a tailless coupe is a thing of beauty. I'm inclined to keep mine clean.

3, 2, 1 in that order

I too have 1, 2 & 3. Love the look of the duck, but for track I like my 75 Carrera style tail.

Same car, but significantly different look from one tail to the next:

I have the "standard" 3.2 whale tail (also used on the RS America and by Alois Ruf on the original 200 mph "Yellow Bird" CTR). Looks aside, it's amazing how "planted" the car feels at 100+ mph. I'm a believer.

I'm sure Bob is correct, but I've never let convention stop me. I recently put a Gary Stratton duck on my '86 and love the look. Plus, the car handles nicely at speed and, here's a surprise, my engine appears to be running several degrees cooler. Not in traffic, of course, but on the freeway for sure.

In the end, you need to do what you like and forget the "consensus".

YMMV
