smoke in cabin ?

Hey , guys , after my 1988 coupe 930 is warmed up and I come to a stand still after driving a couple miles , "smoke" eminates thru the dash vents? I have tryed turning every atmospheric control ,in every combination ,to every extreme position and nothing seems to stop the smoking? It is embarrassing to say the least. I have been under back of car and those two ''air-vent'heat-riser' valves that are plumbed to header boxes , are cable-opperated , but by what? I don't know , and I tryed closing them by hand, and they just don't budge? I don't even know where all the ''smoke''originates from? any help/ advice , thanks

Is there any color or odor to the smoke?

check out the fan wiring...fan bearing fails, wiring fires...

push the levers between the seats all the way down -- the heater boxes under the car should then be all the way open

is the car new to you? be sure to get an owners' manual and read it - heater controls are complex on a 911

Thanks , guys, yes , have read owners manual several times on ''controls'', my car does not have '' levers '' down by e-brake? just a radial knob for A/C ,according to manual. The smoke is not electrical , it is indicative of oil, burning off somewhere and irritatingly entering the ''venting''system , and just ''rises'' up thru the dash vents and defroster vents after car is warmed up?

Even reading the manual, I don't think you should see smoke, as you do.

Sounds like you've an oil leak (possibly) and it's getting in through the ductwork (as you suggested). Don't quite understand why there's no control for the flappers in your boxes...

So,...no oil leaks anywhere under the car?

Hopefully someone will chime in here as to the control elements.....

Best,

Someone had a similar problem a few weeks ago and the suggestion was there was an oil leak somewhere on the top of the engine, under the fan shroud. This resulted in smoke being blown into the heater ducts by the fan, and no tell-tale oil leaks under the car. Sounds reasonable, but the person with the problem never responded as to the solution.
