engine code and trans code questions

I picked up an 77 targa engine/trans over the weekend to resell and am looking for the codes to find out what I have. Can anyone describe or show me a picture as to where I need to look. I tried the search and haven't found a definative anwer yet. Thanks again for all help.

hi, the engine number is located on the right-hand support member of the fan housing.

The transmision if it's pre 72 the reverse is enganged at the top left position, and if its post 72 the reverse is in the rear right position (like actual cars).

pre 72 are 905 transmision and post 72 are 915 kind.

Yes. The engine number is stamped on the verticle surface, and begins with a "star". The engine type number is stamped on the flat surface to the right of the alternator/fan housing also. It should have a 901/xx look.

Is there a website that can identify the engine once the numbers are found? Both of my engines seem to have unknown origins. Thanks.

numbers

Ok, the engine number is 6272732 and so can anyone confirm that it is a 77 2.7l?

The tranny is 9153011021R
What do I have here?

Thanks again.

It would appear to be a 77-2.7 type 911/85 US.
Where was the transmission number located that you posted? That almost looks like a cast/part number. The transmission type number is located on the flat boss at the bottom of the transmission. It should read something like 915/??-******

I found 91530322101 is that another cast number? grrr

Well,

It's not the transmission type number. Look on the bottom surface of the strengthening ribs on the bottom of the transmission, near where the clutch helper spring lives. You should see a pair of numbers. One will be in the format 915/xx and is the type number, the other will be a series of numbers and is the serial number.

trans code is 915/61 717 3579 Thanks in advance.

That's the correct type number for a 77 911S in the US. I don't have a spec book with me to check the serial number but it looks right.

The trans is correct for a 77 915. It is a 5 speed. the 717 serial number is also correct.

The car is a 77 911S 2.7l 165 hp. Engine type should be 911/85 and is located near the engine number.
