Check the plastic pivot bushings that support the linkage arms at the brake pedal assy, gearbox and intake manifold. They eventually deteriorate and fall apart. Disconnect the throttle cable at each end to help isolate where the linkage is hanging up.

Check the throttle connection by the gear box, look for a frayed cable.

You might want to post a pic of that. Meanwhile, have you checked out the linkage down by the trans. If there's cable down there, someone has mickeymoused the original linkage. There is no cable on a '73 S. It's all hard parts.

clamp interferance

mine was catching on the clamp that holds the rubber boot from the throttle body to the intake. I repositioned the clamp and that fixed it.

Check for worn motor & tranny mounts. The engine moving around could cause the linkage to ride on the engine tin at the left front of the motor. If that's not it, check all the ball & sockets in the linkage and the bushings on the tranny bell crank. While you're checking them, you might as well clean & grease 'em all up too. They're all pretty easily accessable either in the cabin under the floorboard or under the car on jackstands. Pop them apart with an 8mm open end.

When I took the linkage on my car apart, the bell crank bushings on the tranny were greasy sludge and little bits of white plastic.

here's the pic

I had the rubber boot off checking the throttle body; when I reinstalled, the clamp ended up further to the left, so that when I tightened it, the screw head interfered with the throttle arm. Got real exciting; actually felt "detent" in pedal. I repositioned the clamp and the problem went away.

not sure about your modle year, but my '86 throttle binds with the clutch linkage to the right of the pedal assymbly. Just check there to be sure. This only happens t mine when the clutch is depressed.

Ah well, 73.5 and CIS does make a difference. Did you say 73 and a half before and I missed it?
