Clutch Issues – I’m stumped

Been having an issue with my clutch for a while, symptoms are:

The last 2 in of pedal movement feel a little crunchy. When the car is cold, it is noticeable, but not that bad.

As the car warms up it becomes more noticeable. When you push the pedal in like at a stop
light, the pedal will stay down as you release the clutch until your foot is about 2 in away then it will pop
out (sometimes stalling the engine) and be fine until the next stop light.

When at speed and shifting, the pedal works almost normal in that it will not stay down, but will still feel crunchy the last 2 in of movement.

I have rebuilt my pedal assembly along with a new clutch cable, Omega and Assist springs.

Other than the problem above, the clutch is stock and works fine.
No slipping, engages/disengages at the proper throw points and there is no vibration with the pedal depressed.

Prior to dropping the engine and separating the trans, can anyone recommend anything more?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Get the car safely up on stands and have someone operate the clutch pedal while you examine the workings. No need to start/run the car, IMO. Things to look for (in no particular order) cable path, helper spring installation, pedal ass'y and trans mounts.

Since you didn't separate the trans from the motor (at least that's the way it reads), I don't think you will find your problem in there.

probably in the bellhousing area. needle bearings in the release fork wear notches in the fork cross-shaft and they're hanging up in them. other than the pedal assembly, everything from the clutch master to the slave on the trans is hydraulic, so nothing is going to hang up there.

Whoops, sorry, I didn't read the year right. Sounds like he might need the upgrade, huh.

Thanks for the replies!
Actually this is a 87 930, so its cable all the way, no hydraulics.

The car has 42k original miles on it and is the original clutch also.

Me too. I'm as confused as ever. So, the '87 TURBO didn't come with a G50. Good to know. Even tho I can't figure out my years, the under car exam should show you something.

Be safe.

Thanks again guys…
It was crunchy with the old cable and crunchy with the new cable
A weird side note, seems if I double clutch it, prior to take off from a red light, the stay down while depressed fades just a bit

The stay down of the pedal seems to be related to the actual amount of time the pedal is depressed while engine is warm
